DEFENSE AGAINST ASTEROIDS

Humanity is moving into space.
Knowing where asteroids and comets are is necessary for navigation.
Tempel 1 the comet NASA just impacted with, has shown that
any interference with cosmic objects will change their orbits.
Therefore before we impact or mine asteroids we should put a 
navigation beacon on them so future spacefarers can locate
or avoid them. This is a function of Earth defense.
It can be done by investment groups as they stake claims for mining.
But could be partially financed by the Dept of Defense in a 
joint effort among all space faring countries.
A real defense against a real threat.
A real solution to a shortage of resources. 
Instead of ripping off the rest of humanity.
Employment for the military industrial complex, 
that is NOT killing innocent people.

Asteroid mining also offers employment opportunities in many ways.
Breakthroughs in technology, and the need for space ecosystems,
will improve life on Earth as well.
